Will There Be Webpack 6?

Webpack 5 has been out for a long time. Will there be a Webpack 6, or is Webpack exiting the stage? I checked the repo and found the answer.

Research shows v5 shipped in 2020.

YES—Webpack is far from retiring. It remains one of the most widely used build tools and is still actively developed.

Roadmap for Webpack 6?

There’s no public v6 plan at the moment. The team is focused on stability and performance improvements for Webpack 5. Not every good feature needs a major version bump.

Other bundlers tout performance—how does Webpack respond?

The team is aware and has introduced performance optimizations in Webpack 5, with ongoing improvements.

Final Thoughts

In my team, Webpack is still the primary build tool; some projects use Vite.
